Developed by arcade veterans Arc System Works, Battle Fantasia is like no other fighter, thanks to its unique cast of fantasy inspired characters, alongside a storyline and script that stays true to its Japanese heritage and manga roots.

In keeping with the fantasy themes of the game, Battle Fantasia also has elements familiar to fans of role-playing games. Instead of having a standard health bar, characters have hit-points that drain away as they take damage. As a result smaller characters have less health but are faster and harder to hit, whereas larger ones can deal greater damage at the cost of a faster pace. This means the gameplay experience is unlike any fighter you've played before.

Battle Fantasia includes a variety of different modes e.g. story, practice, survival, time attack, versus and online multiplayer. What's more, by playing through the story mode, it's possible to unlock new costumes for the fighters, along with a range of artwork by Guilty Gear series legend Emiko Iwasaki.

  • A stunning arcade port from the developers of the popular Guilty Gear series
  • Classic 2D gameplay with beautifully rendered fully 3D characters and environments
  • Fast-paced, fluid and balanced fighting
  • 12 playable characters with their own unique attributes, special moves and stories
  • Experience head-to-head action at home and across the world with online multiplayer

I have buy this game without knowing almost anything of it and now it is one of my favorite games. A good action & adventure game with an attractive female character, Ayumi. A very good gameplay though repetitive.

Do you like Devil May Cry 4 and Heavenly Sword? X-Blades is your next target :)

By Raz (UK)
I have a thing for the dynasty warriors games, I think they are really good fun and laid back. This is no different, it's broken up into small levels, but all the same, the magic and the attacks are really good, the graphics in its anime style are pretty much flawless. This is just a great game to play if you want to just lay back and press some buttons, Don't expect anything too taxing, but then I haven't finished it yet either. My only gripe is it can feel like a slog in some places. But overall I really like it, and it's better than god of war but thats not hard to achieve

"turned out to be something special." 2009-03-18
By S. L. Smith (uk)
I bought this game for my g/f, which i though would keep her entertained for a while. but this game turned out to be something special.

It's a real visual feast, running at 1080p the game looks stunning, with beautifully rendered anime style cutscenes and graphics, and has some fantastically detailed enviroments.

The gameplay is fast paced and when playing the screen was quickly filled hordes of enemies, but no matter how many there were, there wasn't any drop in frame rate. The HUD is minimal allowing you to see the enviroments in all their glory.

The gameplay is primarly hack and slash but with an RPG element like Devil May Cry. So like DMC be prepared for some massive boss battles, which can be quite difficult, also vast amount of enemies for you to kill and two endings.

All this with a great range of attacks and fantastically rendered spells, a control system that works, and that is very easy to pick up.

This game is definitely a must have, a briliant piece of work.

I have been a huge fan of all the ratchet and clank games, and was really excited about buying this game. So when I first played it, I was shocked by the graphics, possibly the best I have seen on ps3 game yet. But this game, while very enjoyable, lacks a certain something that made all the past titles special and unique. Now, I'm not saying the game is bad, as I did really enjoy it, but it pales in comparison with past titles

A lot of patience is required of this game as almost within each level you find it shows you a bit of the story then loads and then shows more story before loading again. I was getting a little tired of all the loading it requires. overall game play 3 stars due to the fact there are no checkpoints through the levels therefore if you get to end of level and you die you would have to start from beginning of level again

It really is astounding how bad this game is. I did like the Sonic Adventure games on Dreamcast but not more recent games. Anyway I just saw this having not heard anything about it. I actually thought maybe with them just calling it Sonic The Hedgehog it might have kind of gone back to what Sonic games used to be about but be a cool next gen version. Not a bit of it. All the things I used to like about Sonic games was just not here at all. I used to really like the speed and playability of the older games but this really does feel awful to play. This is most definitely not what I bought a PS3 for. Much prefer playing the original Sonic on my phone. At a fiver to download thats much better than this total mess. PLEASE AVOID!

     "A REAL SHAME....." 2008-04-16
    By Mrs. W. Scott
After playing the playstation version years ago I couldn't wait to get this. After playing it, SEGA showed just what they are capable of.. making a complete waste of time and effort! God knows why you would want to to pay 44.99 for it. Luckily I got it with the console. I advise you not to get this even if you love sonic, it will only dull your memories of him.

There are loads of reasons why it is so rubbish, and I could go on forever telling you but I'll tell you some of the main reasons. The gameplay is atrocious and will no doubt give you a headache within minutes. SEGA have now got you doing endless chores for the townsfolk before you can go into a proper level. the townsfolk give you your stupid task to do and after listening to them mumble for hours on end you then have to wait for it to load for further time. The chores are petty and even the fans won't get anything out of it.

As soon as you've done enough tasks for the townsfolk you then go on to a proper level which isn't even credible so your wasting your time doing tasks for people in the first place. The levels are difficult and really frustrating. Some sections of the level may require sonic to go at top speed to the objective. This is beyond all proposterous and laughable however when your playing it, you'll be far from laughing...

I've spent paragraphs complaing about this piece of junk so perhaps I should move on to something that's just below credible. You might just wring the fun out of multiplayer if you have a mate that likes it and something that is credible is the graphics. Most areas are dull, however some have a good feel to the game itself. Overall a big disappointment and I won't consider purchasing anything that SEGA have created. Personally I would highly reccomend you NOT to buy this as you'll be wasting your time and playing will make you explode.

at the beginning this game seems fun and colorful, but quickly turns

    dull and boring.

although this game is portrait to be great it lacks effort.

the new silver character at first is also great

but all he can do is fly 2cm and and lift up 2 cars and miss the enemy.

the towns are also boring and are tiny.

although this is what many sonic fans like about the games i find myself wanting to get a refund

Despite reading the reviews i opted to fork out 16 quid for Sonic The Hedgehog as having been a sonic fan since the age of 9 i decided to ignore the reviews and buy it and see for myself what was the big fuss, hoping i would enjoy.

But alas i have wasted 16 quid on what has to be the worst playstation 3 game EVER, the camera angles suck, the voice actors should be shot and the gameplay is absolutely abismal as it basically spends half the time playing the game for you and the other half asking people about crap you care less about it and also the cutscenes have major glitches which but its not just the opening cutscene its every DAMN one which just spoils it for me.

I have tried and tried again to get into the game and convince myself that coz its sonic i will like the game but there is no way on god's green earth i could like this game, so i urge you dear buyer do not waste your money, time or effort on this tragic excuse of a game and look elsewhere as this game pure and simply SUCKS!

 "Extremely satisfied!" 2009-08-06
By Cormyr
I've been a fan of Spyro since i was a child, one of my very first games being the original Spyro and circulating up to Year of The Dragon, and I remember all 3 games brilliantly - simply because they were just that great.

Recently I took up the challenge of finding YOTD yet again, and to my dismay mr.PS2 has given up on me - so I decided, let's look it up. I found the new "The Legend Of Spyro" series and thought, "well why not..."

I've yet to play Eternal Nights (gap in story on my part... i've got the beginning and the end... xD)

This game is just awesome, to put it simply... the controls at first may feel a little foreign if you're not used to them, but they're so easy to pick up. Both playable characters are seen in-depth and in co-op, it's no longer "oh, i'm playing with you..... *runs a mile away to kill one enemy*" now, both players are MADE to stay near one another and work together... no spoilers just in case ;)

This games graphics are fantastic, and the story itself is just brilliant.

I could continue, but i'll stop and explain why 4* and not 5* ...

Once this game was completed on my part, i was... for some reason, left this feeling of "that's over. what now?" and i don't mean, ok what can i go play on next, it just seemed to leave some gap, something wasn't there, no REAL closure. the game wasn't overly short or anything either, and i could quite happily play through it again... see what i mean?

Either way, this game is fantastic and practically a steal for £14. If you're a fan of puzzles etc. this may not be the entire game for you, this is an action/adventure(platformer?)/puzzle game. So if you like all of these genres, you'll most likely enjoy this game.

This game was awful. I got it because I loved playing the ancient PS1 games for Spyro, but it just wasn't the same- Spyro was far too pink, there was a playable annoying girl, Christina Ricci moaning orgasmically at every wall-climb, and it was missing the humour of the old games.

Basically, if you played the PS1 games, don't play this one.

"Brilliant!!!! Nice game for an under 11 year old..." 2009-10-04

Brilliant!!! My 10-year old loves it and also do I, a mum in my 40ies...Wall-E plays like a remote car. - I didn't expected it!!! As we don't have the facilities for long-distance remotes. I must admit initially I felt a little bit biassed, as I expected in the begin a deserted Earth full of trash and loneliness. But zooming Wall-E around over different kinds of obstacles, racing tracks, slippery surfaces, swinging/breaking apart bridges...throwing compacted cubes... it is a lot of more fun than I thought. I can recommend it, particularly if you don't want your kid drifting off too early in those shooting games, that are unfortunately too plentiful around for the PS3. 8/10 for me...

"A Bit Easy - Okay for the under 7/8 year olds" 2009-05-20
By Mr. Alwyn J. Royall (England - UK)
Bought this title a few weeks ago and completed it in a couple of nights, once I mastered the controls.

The characters are fine and my kids love the game. They are 3-5 years so I think they are the ideal age group for this game. They don't have a problem working the game out and thoroughly enjoy (nag) playing the game.

The visual aspects are disappointing considering it is a PS3 game, but the sound track is quite addictive. Game play can get a bit repetitive as you find yourself working through the challanges and collect items or shoot things. You get to operate Wall-E, EVE or both and the motion seems generally smooth. There are some irritating parts of the action where you get stuck due to poor rendering and end up not seeing what is happening due to the messages on the screen.

I think at £15 or less this game is okay value, at the original price it is very poor value.

Recommend you rent it for a couple of weeks and then give it back, or buy it and then sell it when you have solved the game.

Disney pixar is always fun what ever your age! My younger brothers play it, my girlfreind plays it excessively and if im under oath ill even admit to picking up the control and guiding the movie characters round the levels, but Wall-e was different it lacked everything that makes a god transission from movie to game.

The game itself follows the movies path, you guide Wall-e and some times Eve throught the levels. Its relatively easy, the graphics are ok but the gameplay is often slow, with poor camera angles and numerous glitches that find you stuck or between walls that just leaves you frustrated.the levels are often too complex for younger players.

The game was poor at best, it lacked that spark and its game play was a let down. The Movie was great so i suggest you buy that the game howvere is barely rentable i definatly wouldnt bother purchasing it if i were you! sadly im not and i have purchased it and its gathering dust on the shelf!

"So many obstacles to play the game! :(" 2009-08-31
By Justice Fezz (London, England)
I brought this game used, figuring that there are some problems with the game, but it will still be fun!

Oh how I was wrong! The game is setup as so, the world gets broken up in parts, and you need to put it back together! There are day and night levels, and there is a town to explore.

Sega has thrown in some RPG elements into the game, so you in order to play the levels you FIRST need to collect stones and do all sorts of side missions! Also there are no clear instructions on what to do next; you need to figure it out! So you'll be talking to locals from different parts of the world trying to figure out what to do in order to PLAY the game!

The sonic levels are brilliant! The night levels are ok, but it's the constant hurdles like "find the girl", "give this gift to some girl" bogs this game down, and ruins it!

This game had all the right bits, just poorly put together!

If you're a child or buying for a child maybe they will like it, otherwise DONT buy it!

"One Of The Worst Games You'll Ever Play" 2009-02-15
By Adem Hursit
Sonic The Hedgehog is sort of a rock star of the gaming industry. He fronted a series of extremely popular titles, made enough money to by Saint Paul's Cathedral, abused a number of forbidden substances (3-D Environments) before spiralling downward, made a few embarrasing atempts to return to the spotlight (i.e. any game after Sonic Adventure 2) and now his shows are only attended by a few older gamers who sigh and dream of the glory days.

The particular substance that Sonic is abusing this time around is duel-world gameplay because Nintendo are all over that and Sonic is more than happy to join the club if it helps him return to his former glory. So in Sonic Unleashed you can either play during the day or the night. During the day your the lovable superspeed blue mammal that we are all familiar with and at night you turn into a Werehog, which is a misquotation. You see the term Werewolf is derived from the old english word were meaning man, so Man-wolf. A more suitable name would be Hog-wolf or Wolf-hog, but I'm not sure if he's supposed to be a wolf since wolves don't have long strechy arms and go roung ripping off God of War.

But anyway, the reason I rented this game was because a friend anticipated that, because this game would be a return to form that it would be brilliant. I on the other hand was certain that I would hate it and was looking foward to getting good and angry at it and moking my friend later. But I was wrong, Sonic Unleashed is so BAD so PUTRID so utterly without any redeeming features. It falls right off of my rankings list and into the pit of sheer awfulness, if I could this game less than 1 star I would do so, I would even give it less than 0 if I could.

Much of the critisism towards this game has been directed at the Man-Hog stages, whereas I believe that they are the only slightly above terrible aspect of this rubbish. This is due to the fact that you can dress Man-hog in a skirt, squint your eyes and convince yourself that your playing God Of War, a much better game. Like God of War you defeat loads of enemys with long range physical attacks, unlike God Of War the battle are boring, repetative with no skill involved and the environments are badly designed. Like God Of War you can also finish off enemies with a Quick Time Event, but they're terribly unforgiving and they also cause the enemies to regain most of they're health. So you'll always be forced to mash the heavy attack button.

It fairly safe to say anyone with any real talent in Sonic Team has left the department and has moved on, since even though this game does several things the fans have been asking for it still manages to mess these requests up. For example they seem to have relised that most fans of Sonic want Sonic games to be about SONIC and that his ever expanding army of woodland friends (Amy, Rouge the Bat, Blaze the Cat ect) can all go dive under a lorry and stay there. As a result the number of characters is cut down sharply. Tails makes an appearance, but he was with the series when it was still good so I'll allow that. However Sonic Team then introduced this Fairy who is similar to Navi from Ocarina of Time only ten times more annoying. It doesn't help that the dialoge's so embarrisingly written and the voice-acting's so terrible that I had to change the language to Japanese just to make sure I didn't try to choke myself to death everytime someone spoke.

Another thing that Sonic team have relised is that putting Sonic into a 3D environment is like putting oil in water, they just don't mix. So during the day levels built on classic Sonic gaming means you run in a largely 2D environment, but even these are completely infuriating. Ironically Sonic moves too fast, running into pits of death, off of cliffs and into lethal death obsticales, sometimes immediatly when you begin playing. Also the fact that there is one of my previous examples every 2 seconds when playing and the fact that the controls are highly non-responsive makes for some of the most frustrating gameplay ever devised. And to top it off the live system makes a reappearance, meaning that if you run out of lives (which is almost certain) you have to start the level from the very beginning, this is the type of gameplay I would expect to have been designed by some sadistic torturer. And just to be completely insufferable when you finally reach the end of a level the game grades you, usually very poorly. So I'm the one who's being blamed for this truly appaling level design?

Still even getting to a level is completely irritating. First your dropped into the country where you want to go, then you have to navigate your way to the level start, which is like being dropped of in a maze with the wrong map. So you have to navigate your way through a tedious and boring area to get to the GAME PART OF THE ACTUAL GAME and even when you finally do find the enterance you still can't play it until you play a truly agonising mini-game where you have find a certain amount of rings. This means you have go through every single bit of the boredom maze OVER AND OVER till you find them all. It's all just for a story we've heard several times before: Eggman's planning something bad and Sonic has to stop him.

This isn't the game for you if you want to get straight into the action. In fact I'm not sure who could consider this the game for them but they probably live in a cave.

SONIC IS DONE, FINISHED! HE DOESN'T NEED MORE GAMES, HE NEEDS HELP! PREFERABLY THE TYPE OF HELP THAT INVOLVES TEARFULLY PUTTING A GUN TO THE BACK OF HIS HEAD!

 "Very Nice Game" 2009-12-01
By Afonso Matos (Portugal)
It is a very nice game. You have a lot of different weapons, gadgets, that allow you to do different things with each one, like killing little funny monsters. You also travel a lot between the planets of the game, each one with their own characteristics (like background). In some planets, you have tournaments: you have a number of rounds to survive the enemies, that come to "destroy" you. In the end, you have to face the boss of each tournament, to win it.

Basically, it's a very fun game to all ages.

 "Better than I thought" 2009-09-23
By A. Taylor (West Sussex, United Kingdom)
After the Ratchet and Clank series moved to the Playstation 3, I was irritated because I didn't have one. I literally ended up buying a PS3 so I could get this game. I recommend you start with the very first one on the PS2 before trying this one. My personal favorite was Ratchet and Clank 2: Locket and Loaded because of the length of time it took to complete and the variety of weapons available. To be honest, the weapons on Tools of Destruction arent that inventive (although they do make good use of the 'Sixaxis' controller for the Tornado / Typhoon launcher). On the PLUS side: They have brought back the Flame thrower from the first one! Other weapons are quite similar, I miss the tesla claw which would zap a shock of lightning between enemies. Weapons also dont upgrade as far past VX (Version 10) with omega in 'Challenge Mode' (When you play through it a second time)

In this game you collect rarritanium crystals like you do bolts, scattered around and it is used to buy weapon upgrades. But once you have bought all upgrades and the Golden Groovitron (Used to make enemies dance) you havent got any real use for rarritanium any more. Hint for if you buy the game and wonder what the 'Holoplans' are for and have a missing space in the weapons screen: Collect all holoplans and take them to the Smuggler on the Jurassic Planet. He will assemble the RYNO IV - a pretty decent weapon.

Insomniac usually makes their games perfectly functional but this one has a few annoyances (not serious enough to make me lower the rating and an extensive list of positives would easily tip the scale!):

> You can't zoom in very far on the map (Select button)

> Gold bolts are incredibly easy to find and acquire

> Skill points are awarded for much simpler things

> You cant fire at random passing ships any more (in the distance)

> The game is shorter again, if in challenge mode you can basically complete the game in a couple of hours if you skip cinematics. As said in other reviews I have read; it doesnt have as much 'replay value' but the story line is good despite being a bit short.

Here are some of the positives that particularly caught my attention:

> Graphics are very good and so is the sound quality. (Have you PS3 output on the correct setting!)

> You have a variety of new gadgets which are very interesting and one allows you to fly around levels (Robowings)

> There is a Gelatonator which sucks up and fires green slime which you can bounce on

> The cinematics are more humerous.

> The weapons can be quite fun once they are upgraded.

> There are two places - one is a Jurassic Planet and has huge alien dinosaurs which you can climb on and another is a meteor which has blue reflective ice and crystals all over the place. Both of these looked fantastic. I spent more time observing the scenery and artwork than playing that level.

> there are many other positives but too many to list.

Overall: This is a must have for the Playstation 3! A* Good Luck.

"Streets Of Rage alone makes it worth the buy" 2009-12-07
By Diaconescu Laurian (Timisoara, Romania)
I dreamed about this for years.

Streets Of Rage, my childhood game, available on the PS3, not just for Wii.

When this collection was released, I already knew I would buy it when I finally saw the mentioned game on the list.

Even better, some more gems like Sonic 1, Golden Axe 3 and Comix Zone made the cut.

What I can't understand about it though, is why Sega decided to leave out some very entertaining games and

filled the disc with many uninteresting titles.

I can only hope they will release a second volume, because too many GOOD Sega Megadrive games are still waiting for a upscaled release.

I must admit that this review is subjective. I would have bought this for Streets of Rage alone, and I'm probably not the only one. Was Sega counting on this? Probably so, I just hope they WILL release another collection.

Some really good games were:

Aladdin

Demolition Man

DESERT STRIKE

Dragon - The Bruce Lee Story

The Batman games

All WWF (WWE) games

Jurassic Park

Red Zone

Revenge Of Shinobi

Spider-Man

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The Death And Return Of Superman

The Incredible Hulk

THE PUNISHER

Urban Strike

and that's just to name a few of them.

So, if you're a fan of Sonic The Hedgehog and the first and best Streets of Rage installment, definitely buy this.

Otherwise skip it, since most of the other games featured on the disc are pretty lame.

"SONIC GAMES - No lock on ability" 2009-10-29
By Jimmy Lovesey (Cardiff, South Wales)
This is a great collection of classic games but disappointingly it does NOT utilise the lock on capability of Sonic & Knuckles. Very unfortunate as Sonic 3 and Sonic&Knuckles is essentially one game.

Apparently this was due to "time constraints" but, well, they should have held out a bit longer then! There's plenty of space to fit it all on here.

 "Poor collection" 2009-10-26
By Peter Anderson
Very poor collection on what could have been a good compilation. Far too much emphasis on Sonic and the various offshoots. What happened to the likes of ToeJam & Earl, Aliens, LHX Attack Helicopter and NHL '95 (to name but a few). Likely to gether dust in my collection unless I use it as a coaster. Extremely disaapointing!!!!

"Some good stuff, but overall a missed opportunity" 2009-10-24
By Shawn Watson (Badger's Brook, Scotland)
Here's how it should have went.

Sega should have given us a literal Sonic Ultimate Collection by putting Sonic 1, 2, 3, 3D, Knuckles, Advance 1, 2, 3, Spinball, Mean Bean Machine, Knuckles Chaotix and Sonic CD on one PS3 disc with unlockable extras like the Game Gear titles.

Streets of Rage should be remade in HD. There are already fan-made Streets of Rage games out there with awesome remixed soundtracks. An epic HD remake with the original Streets of Rage 1, 2 and (the Japanese version of) 3 as extras would make a fine stand alone PS3 game.

Golden Axe 1, 2, 3 and the terrible RPG should have been unlockable extras on the recent Golden Axe: Beast Rider (PS3).

With the exception of coveted titles like Shining Force the rest in this collection are embarrassing and forgettable. Super Thunder Blade is as godawful as it has always been and time hasn't been kind to many of the others.

If Sega/Backbone Entertainment were going to quickly rush 40-ish Genesis/Mega Drive games onto a PS3 disc then why didn't they just make a bit more effort and chuck in EVERY other game that was released on this console as they'd easily fit onto a Blu Ray disc.

But that didn't happen I'm afraid, so for the moment we'll have to stick to emulators.

Nice game, still fun but graphics aren't updated.

The "save mode" is a nice add, but it makes some games easier.
